Basil Chaffles

Updated: Aug 25, 2023

Chaffle [ chof-uhl ] noun • A waffle made of cheese and eggs for a low carb, keto friendly alternative.

If you are like me, you are scouring @amazon for your next Prime purchase. I have been hemming and hawing about whether or not to purchase a waffle maker to add to my collection of kitchen gadgets. After doing research and reading through countless reviews, I decided to purchase the @unprocessyourfood Dash Mini Maker (Size: 4 inch / Color: Red). And my gosh I am pleased with this little dynamo!

For its maiden voyage, I put this mini waffle maker to the test by making chaffles (waffles made of just cheese, eggs, almond flour, and baking powder). I am incredibly impressed with its performance for it only being $9.99. It preheats quickly and signals when it is ready by shutting off the light on top. And the best part...the chaffles were cooked and ready to eat in only 3 minutes! It was also easy to clean after it cooled down completely. Lastly, living in an apartment, I am glad it is small and compact so that I can stow it away.

If you are looking for a small, power-packed waffle maker, this Dash Mini Maker needs to find a home in your kitchen! Happy shopping!

INGREDIENTS

1 large egg

1 tbsp almond flour

¼ tsp baking powder

1 tsp chia seeds

2 tsp fresh basil, finely chopped

1 tsp fresh parsley, finely chopped

½ tsp black pepper

½ cup part-skim mozzarella, shredded

¼ cup Parmigiano-Reggiano, grated

Yields 2 chaffles

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg, flour, baking powder, chia seeds, basil, and black pepper. Stir in mozzarella and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Set aside.

  2. Preheat waffle maker.

  3. After the waffle maker is preheated, spray both sides with cooking spray. With a spoon, pour ½ the batter onto the center of the waffle iron and spread it out evenly. Close the waffle maker and cook the chaffle to desired doneness, about 3 minutes.

  4. Carefully remove the chaffle from the waffle iron and repeat with the remaining batter. Allow the chaffles to cool about 2 to 3 minutes. They will crisp up as they cool.
